Where to Stay in Dusseldorf, Germany

Planning a trip to Dusseldorf and wondering where to stay? With so many accommodation options available, it can be overwhelming to decide on the best place to rest your head. Discover the charm of Dusseldorf! From the historic Altstadt to modern neighborhoods. Whether you're a budget-conscious traveler, a luxury seeker, or someone who prioritizes location above all else, Dusseldorf has something to offer everyone.

Where to Stay in Dusseldorf

For an unforgettable stay in Düsseldorf , let me be your guide. As a resident here who knows the city’s hidden gems, I’m eager to point you in the direction of the best places to stay.

First up, let’s talk about the best areas to stay in Düsseldorf. The Altstadt (Old Town) is hands-down the top pick, especially if it’s your first time in the city. You’ll be smack-dab in the middle of the action, with top attractions like the Kunsthalle, a contemporary art museum, the oldest church at your doorstep, the worlds longest bar, and many famous beer halls.

But the Altstadt isn’t the only game in town. Shopaholics will adore Stadtmitte and its main shopping streets. Medienhafen has that trendy urban vibe with its modern art and architecture by Frank Gehry. It also showcases the best in contemporary architecture with stylish skyscrapers and posh hotels. If you’re seeking some real Japanese culture and food, Little Tokyo is where its at.

Friedrichstadt is another fantastic area, known for its modern and multicultural vibe. It’s packed with traditional Japanese restaurants, Turkish and Bulgarian places to eat, and vibrant street art that adds to its alternative charm.

Best Boutique Hotels in Düsseldorf City Center

If you’re after a stay with personality, you can’t go wrong with a boutique hotel. Luckily, Düsseldorf’s city center is packed with charm.

Affordable Luxury

Ever find yourself longing for a serene urban retreat? The Wellem offers gentle tranquility among verdant courtyards and tranquil cafes, conveniently nestled in the Old town near all the action and just a minute walk to the Rhine River, with fantastic facilities that ensure a high-quality stay. The hotel used to serve as a court house and survived the British bombing of World War II. It features a beautiful grand staircase at the entrance and is also home to one of my favorite cocktail bars decorated in rich blue velvet fabrics and modern art.

Stylish Stays

It’s no secret – Dusseldorf is a major player in the fashion world as Germany’s fashion capital. Stroll the leafy boulevards of Königsallee for flagship designer stores and luxury labels. For a hotel that’s as fashionable as the city itself, look no further than the Ruby Coco Hotel, another modern hotel, with playful decor and a rooftop bar perfect for late night drinks. It also has great amenities such as private parking, family rooms, free Wi-Fi, sauna, fitness center, all right near the shopping districts.

Unique Amenities

Boutique hotels often come with one-of-a-kind perks. Take The Muze Hotel this hotel was actually discovered by one of my friends who first came to visit me and was looking for a hip place to stay at a good price. The hotel is newly renovated and located across a beautiful park just 10 minutes walking from the Old Town. It also has a Japanese-style spa and a rooftop garden. For something a in a more residential area, The Hotel Villa Achenbach, has a beautiful victorian style decor and its very own contemporary art gallery.

Little Tokyo

Venture into Düsseldorf’s Little Tokyo and uncover a dynamic district pulsating with Japanese culture. Offering a taste of Japan in the heart of Germany. In this area you’ll still be within walking distance of all the top sights. The Sir & Lady AstorHotel and The Moxy Dusseldorf are great options if this is your vibe. The area is also home to fantastic restaurants, offering a modern feel with an array of dining options, including luxury shops, laid-back bars, and multicultural dining experiences. Either way don’t miss out on trying some of the amazing Japanese food here.

Historic Charm

Many of Düsseldorf’s hotels are housed in historic buildings, giving them loads of Old World charm. Hotel Orangerie is a beautiful yet chic hotel with historic charm, but the interiors are totally modern. The Living Hotel De Medici is another great option built in a a former monastery in the center of the the Old town. They also have a welcoming atmosphere with a beautiful bar that makes amazing craft cocktails. Lastly, the The Fritz Hotel occupies a grand old townhouse on a cobblestone street street giving all the European vibes.

Luxury Hotels in Dusseldorf for an Upscale Stay

Ready to live up the lap of luxury in Düsseldorf ? The city has no shortage of luxurious hotels and posh places to lay your head, but here are some of my favorites that will not disappoint.

Luxury 5-Star Hotels

If you’re after the best of the best, you can’t go wrong with a 5-star hotel. The Breidenbacher Hof is the creme de la creme,  a stylish hotel with opulent rooms and a prime location on the Königsallee, aka Kings alley. It also happens to be home to one of my favorite splurge restaurants, The Dutchy. Whether you end up staying here or not, its a beautiful location for a cocktail or a 5 course delight.  The InterContinental is another top pick also in the center of Königsallee, with a Michelin-starred restaurant and a killer spa.

For a luxury experience with an incredible view of the Rhine River, the Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf hotel is the way to go. Located in the most modern district of Dusseldorf in the trendy Media Harbor, home to many international companies. Although it is a bit further away from central Düsseldorf, the hotel overlooks the beautiful view of the Old Town and Rhine Tower.

Hotels Near Dusseldorf Main Train Station

I know what you’re thinking: “Hotel near train station? Ick”, But trust me, staying near Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof yes, that’s the main train station name, is the perfect choice for travelers looking for a seamless city break. It’s also incredibly convenient for those heading to Düsseldorf Airport, especially if you have an early flight.

Convenient Locations with Easy Access to Transportation

Nothing beats the flexibility of staying near the Hauptbahnhof. With easy access to public transport like trams and U-Bahns, only a short walk away, you can zip off in no time to destinations both near and far, from neighboring cities in North Rhine-Westphalia to points further afield such as Cologne, Amsterdam, and even Paris! With a hotel nearby, you’ll never have to worry about schlepping your luggage too far.

Popular Hotels Top Rated Hotels Near the Train Station

There are some good hotel options to choose from near the Hauptbahnhof. The NH Düsseldorf City is a great option, and it’s just a 2-minute walk from the station.

The TRIBE Hotel is a popular pick, with modern rooms and a 24-hour bar. There’s not a lot of bells and whistles here but it has the essentials.

Both of these offer conference, meeting rooms and amenities that might be desired from business hotels.

Conclusion

Dusseldorf is a city that captivates visitors with its unique blend of history, modernity, and vibrant culture. When it comes to deciding where to stay in Dusseldorf, the options are plentiful and diverse.
